a guided tour of axe throwing history!

We're doing something new for the 2026 York Viking Festival! Our new axe throwing history sessions are part educational walk through time, part axe throwing experience with the very weapons they used throughout history!

 

• Hear from our axe coaches about the birth of axe throwing and its place in Viking culture

• Learn the hows and whys axe throwing was used in battle

• See 3 types of axes thrown throughout history

• Get shown by our coaches how to throw each type like a true warrior!

Some details about the session structure:

• A special session taking place during the 2026 Jorvik Viking Festival (Feb. 17th - Sunday 22nd)

• 30 minute public sessions running every 45 minutes

• Up to 8 spots per session

• £15 per head

• Minimum age 13 (Under 13 can attend but aren't able to throw)

• Walk-ins welcome but booking is encouraged
