5 Party Venues In York: Easily Book Small Or Large Groups

Looking for the best party venue in York? When it comes to parties, York has an abundance to choose from. From birthdays to corporate events, hen do’s to stag parties, there’s no shortage of venues to host a celebration. Let’s see what York has to offer.

The Hilt

How about a party that’s different? The Hilt is a unique venue, offering guests the chance to throw like a viking - it’s not every day you get to do that! Located right in the heart of the city, (on Goodramgate, just 4 minutes from York Minster), The Hilt encourages you to discover the age-old Viking pastime of axe throwing.

Get together with your nearest and dearest, the axe throwing activity suits groups of between 2 and 12 people (there’s also a private booking option for groups of 8-12 people). That said, larger groups can be accommodated too on request - so if you have a bigger than average Viking posse you won’t miss out!

Expert axe throwing instructors will be on hand to demonstrate and teach all the skills you need to hit the target, and following a practise session you will participate in a thrilling competition. Who has what it takes to be crowned the Viking or Viqueen?

York Racecourse

The thunder of hooves and the rush of adrenalin as you realise you’ve backed the winning horse - York racecourse will provide you with a thrilling day out. Just under a mile from the centre of the city, York Racecourse proves to be a convenient and popular attraction.

Check out the runners and riders as they enter the parade ring, cheer on your favourite and witness the prize-giving in the winners enclosure. You can also eat, drink and make merry at the racecourse - the food is fresh and locally sourced.

If you’re looking for something a little more exclusive why not opt for one of the box packages? You can book racing, food and an optional drinks package for your party. You can even hold your own private event for up to 1400 diners - but the venue does cater for smaller affairs too. You should also keep an eye out for special events - such as the two day Music Showcase Weekend - popular with both racing and music fans.

The National Railway Museum

Located on Leeman Road, The National Railway Museum allows visitors to enjoy a fully immersive experience. Encounter the feats on engineering on display and marvel at the locomotives on show. The museum features over 1 million objects - some dating back as far as 300 years.

There’s many a story to be told, and whilst history buffs and railway enthusiasts will be in their element here, this is also a great venue for those who simply want to have a good time. The National Railway is the perfect place for a conference, dinner, Christmas party or any other event that takes your fancy.

Pike Hills Golf Club

Yorkshire hospitality is the order of the day at Pike Hills Golf Club. Situated on Tadcaster Road, Pike Hills Golf Club welcomes parties and societies from Monday through to Friday. Refreshments are available, including teas and coffees, pies and cakes.

If you’re seeking something slightly more formal, Pike Hills has their own catering team (and they come highly recommended). You can request everything from bar snacks to a full sit-down meal for eighty! Private bookings are welcomed - so if you are looking for a venue to host a birthday bash (or something similar), Pike Hills could be the place.

Yorkshire Air Museum

Located in Elvington (close to the city of York), the Yorkshire Air Museum provides a unique setting for your party, and has character by the bucket-load. Situated in the grounds of an authentic World War Two air base (RAF Elvington) the restored buildings have plenty of atmosphere. Corporate get-togethers work well at this venue (there’s plenty of space), but the museum is equally suitable for weddings and other special occasions. The Elvington room and NAAFI restaurant can be combined to provide a versatile space.

Or How About a Traditional Pub, Modern Bar or Hotel?

York has plenty of watering holes to choose from. Gather your friends for an informal drink (or four) at a traditional pub. York has a plethora of historic inns (including the grade II listed Ye Olde Starre Inne, which was first licensed back in 1644). Keep an eye out for the resident ghost (an old lady and her two black cats). Others include the Golden Fleece and The Old White Swan.

Alternatively, get a group together and get shaken (not stirred) as you master the art of mixology. Sign up for a cocktail masterclass at one of the many hip bars gracing the city. If you need to accommodate a larger group you could consider booking a hotel, many have function suites for hire and event coordinators to assist you with entertainment, catering etc.
