Adult birthday party? Hell yes!
As we get older birthdays tend to become less important. But we think it’s a crying shame not to mark such a special occasion every single year. It’s the date you entered this wonderful world, so why not celebrate another year by doing something ridiculously entertaining? After all, why should the kids have all the fun?
What Can York Bring to The Party?
Let’s cut to the chase. York has so much to offer it’s impossible to cover it all here. With it’s Roman roots and Viking influence, York boasts over 2000 years of history and the city still bears the marks. The MedievalCity Walls still encircle York and the authentic Viking treasures, unearthed over the years, can be seen in all their glory at the JORVIK museum.
Despite its historic significance, the city doesn’t focus all of its efforts on the past. There’s a busy shopping scene, plenty of opportunities to eat, drink and be merry, and a whole host of amazing and unique attractions guaranteed to delight. If you’re looking for a romantic date, a great day out, or an adult birthday party idea - York is the place to be.
Time to Celebrate In York!
We’ve put together five of the best adult party ideas in a bid to make your life easier. All of the venues are within York and all will provide a birthday to remember. Let’s see what the city has to offer:
1. Master Axe Throwing at The Hilt
How about a birthday celebration with a difference at a unique venue, The Hilt? The venue is close to York Minster and is located at 57 Goodramgate, YO1 7LS. The expert coaches will demonstrate how to throw an axe like a true Viking, and you will be hitting the wooden target in no time.
Gather your fellow vikings and book an exclusive session consisting of a 5 min safety briefing, 20 min practice session, and a 40 min friendly (but fierce) competition. The exclusive session is suitable for 8 or more warriors.
For just £25 per head you get private side by side lanes for your group (no other groups will be combined with yours), a private viking coach and a full portion of shareable meatballs (enough for all the hungry warriors in your party). Who will be crowned the Viking or Viqueen of your party?
2. Get Shaken, Not Stirred With a Cocktail Masterclass
York is awash with chic bars and Fancy Hanks (39 Goodramgate, YO1 7LS) is one of the swankiest. Celebrate your birthday in style as you explore the wonderful world of cocktails with your nearest and dearest.
The bar staff at Fancy Hanks are expert pyromaniacs and mixologists, and if you book a masterclass you not only get to learn from the best, but you also get to drink delicious cocktails too! Book a private area and enjoy a welcome drink before you move on to learning how to make two popular cocktails. There will be plenty of fun and games to be had, plus competitive cocktail competitions to get your guests fired up.
3. Throw a Big & Bold Bash
If you want to throw a party you will be spoilt for choice in York. Book a bash at Revolution (Coney St, YO1 9NA) and you can expect great tunes, tasty food, lots of drinks and a buzzing party atmosphere. There are even birthday cake flavoured shots - just to make your night even more memorable (or less, depending on how many shots you neck)! Revolution has eight party areas to choose from, depending on the size of your celebration, and the venue accepts party bookings for up to 220 people.
4. Feed Your Face
York is a foodie’s heaven, whatever you enjoy, be it Italian fare, British pub grub, an oriental feast or something spicy, you will find a venue to cater for your needs. 1331 (9 - 13 Grape Lane, YO1 7HU) is an eclectic venue - a cafe bar, grill and little cinema all rolled into one. Book a private dining area, depending on the size of your soiree. There’s the art deco Tiffany Room which caters for 12-36 people and the first floor dining area, accommodating up to 50. The venue offers set menus, which work out to be great value for money. Feast on salmon fillet or braised lamb shank before tucking into a sticky toffee pub or chocolate brownie for dessert.
5. Under Starters Orders…. And They’re Off!
How about an exhilarating day at the races? From May until October you can book a hospitality package and enjoy one of the many racing fixtures that take place at the award-winning York Racecourse. You can even request a special birthday message be flashed up on the big screen.
During July, York Racecourse also plays host to a number of bands and singers, and the Music Showcase Weekend towards the end of the month is a particular highlight. This year pop-sensations the Pussycat Dolls will be getting the party started, and Rick Astley will be strutting his stuff the following night.
Found an Adult Birthday Party Idea Yet?
We think the handful of options we’ve listed above are great, but if you can’t decide why not combine a couple? Start your celebrations with a thrilling axe throwing session at The Hilt, then move onto a restaurant for a private dining experience or a funky bar for a cocktail (or four)! You could even make a weekend of it by staying overnight in one of the many hotels, wake up to a lazy breakfast and take a stroll along the River Ouze.
Whatever you decide to do, celebrate, enjoy and have an amazing time.
