Axe throwing birthday? Let me explain...
Another birthday grows near, so why not mark the occasion by doing something a little bit different? Put the jelly and ice cream to one side, round up your nearest and dearest and book a birthday bash to remember at a unique venue: The Hilt.
There are plenty of party venues in York, but The Hilt stands apart from the rest. Adrenalin racing, you lift your axe aloft – the steel blade glinting as you prepare to draw on your new-found skills and send your hatchet flying through the air. Your fellow Vikings at your side, you summon your might and you make your move. The axe whirls and, with a resounding thud, it strikes the target.
A Party Like No Other
Situated in the heart of the city, near York Minster, The Hilt is the first indoor axe-throwing venue in York. You don’t have to be a professional axe-juggler to enjoy this exhilarating experience. The skilled coaches will teach you everything you need to know and you will be throwing like a Viking before you can say “It’s time to Ragnarok and roll.”
An afternoon or evening at The Hilt will provide you with a birthday celebration you simply won’t forget in a hurry. The Hilt also caters for hen and stag parties, works outings, corporate events etc. In fact, we welcome all Viking (and non-Viking) celebrations – we don’t discriminate.
Who Can Join the Viking Party?
You don’t need the strength of Thor to join the fun. Axe-throwing is surprisingly accessible (the axes weigh 1.6 kgs). We do allow younger Vikings to participate, although they must be over the age of thirteen, be able to hold an axe unassisted, and have an older Viking parent or guardian present.
A True Viking Celebration
The Hilt has ten lanes, and offers both social sessions and exclusive sessions. Both of these sessions include:
· The guidance of an experienced Viking coach.
· 5 minute safety briefing
· 20 minute practise session
· 50 minute competition – the winner will be crowed the Viking or Viqueen!
Social sessions suit smaller gatherings (your group may be combined with another). Exclusive sessions are ideal for birthday parties involving 8-12 people, although The Hilt can accommodate larger groups on request.
Book at exclusive session and you will be given private side-by-side lanes to throw in (no other groups will be joined with yours). You also get a full portion of shareable meatballs (don’t worry there will be enough for all of your hungry warriors).
Always Be Yourself, Unless You Can Be a Viking
There’s (maybe) some debate as to whether Viking warriors really did wear horned helmets, but there’s no doubt surrounding their bravado, camaraderie and propensity for a good old fight!
The Hilt invites you and your guests to come together and find that inner Viking strength. Competition is fun, but fierce – so bring your game face and grit! Heck you can even bring a cake if you like (it is a birthday celebration after all)! Just contact our team and they will help you arrange a celebration to remember.
However, just because it’s your birthday it doesn’t necessarily guarantee you will take the Viking crown! But as the Völsunga Saga (poetic rendition recounting the origin and decline of the Völsung clan) stated:
